Mission

We are creating a favorable atmosphere for the development of relations between Russia and the Kingdom of Morocco. We strive to strengthen cooperation and friendship between our peoples, sharing common values and enriching cultural heritage.

History and modernity

The history of Russian-Moroccan relations dates back more than two centuries. In 1777, Sultan Mohammed bin Abdullah proposed to the Russian Empress Catherine II to establish diplomatic and trade relations. Since then, relations between the two countries have developed, and today the Kingdom of Morocco is one of the three leading trade partners of Russia on the African continent. The Intergovernmental Mixed Commission plays a key role in the development of cooperation between Russia and the Kingdom of Morocco. Visa-free entry for Russian citizens has been in effect since 2005, which facilitates business and tourist travel. Both countries actively cooperate in the judicial sphere and environmental protection. In 2022, Rabat was awarded the title of "Capital of African Culture", which underlines the importance of the Kingdom of Morocco in the international arena. Among the significant interstate events, the signing of a memorandum on combating crime in 2021 and the Week of the Russian Language and Russian Education, which was held in Morocco in 2010, can be highlighted. In 2024, the Second African International Congress was held in St. Petersburg, which became an important event in the development of Russian-Moroccan relations and strengthening ties between Russia and African countries.
