Healthcare in the Kingdom of Morocco is a rapidly developing industry sector. One of the national objectives is to modernize public hospitals and involve the private sector in supporting health infrastructure and scientific research. The country is actively working to develop its own production of medicines and other medical products.

The main activities of the Moroccan health system are:

• Improving the quality of medical services and ensuring their accessibility, especially for vulnerable groups of the population, including children with disabilities.

• Support for universal health coverage and financing.

• Professional development of medical workers through basic and continuing education.

• Support for health system management and pharmaceutical policy.

• Disease prevention and control: strengthening the prevention of cardiovascular diseases using data and indicators; promoting a healthy lifestyle and fighting smoking; supporting the prevention and treatment of childhood cancer; promoting the prevention and treatment of mental disorders.

• Health infrastructure development: As part of the strengthening of the health system, eight new regional teaching hospitals, 29 emergency hospitals and four university hospitals are planned to be built in Morocco over the next decade. In the regions of Al-Hoceima, Rabat and Agadir, the government intends to add 3,354 hospital beds, for which $1.1 billion has been allocated. In addition, it is planned to repair and reconstruct 21 regional (CHR) and provincial (CHP) hospital centers, which will increase the number of hospital beds by another 3,254. The total budget of these projects is $440 million.

The Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment, founded in 2005, makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of cancer care and expanding access to it for Moroccan patients. Currently, there are 23 cancer centers in the country — 11 public and 12 private, which annually receive more than 40,000 new patients. In the plans of the Ministry of Health, cancer treatment equipment was highlighted as a priority area of investment.

The Russian-Moroccan Alliance plans to facilitate the exchange of experience between the two countries in the field of healthcare. Special attention will be paid to the issues of professional development of Moroccan doctors, as well as the organization of a service for Moroccan citizens to support the organization of treatment in Russia in the most popular areas of medicine, such as oncology and ophthalmology.
